In the Kitchen 2-10+ years

205

The goal of the workshop In the Kitchen is let children experiment the pleasure of cuisine and learn the principles of a healthy diet through a wide range of flavors and recipes.
The course stands out for age groups:

  • 2-4 years, who participate accompanied by an adult;
  • 5-10+ years, who participate alone.

During each lesson the children experience different recipes and discover the properties of the products they use. They learn to knead, mix, cut, trouble and fill, stimulating manual skills and autonomy. Following the seasonality of the ingredients, each meeting increases the knowledge that children have products and their properties and stimulates their autonomy in the use of cooking equipment. In this way they learn to use, for example, also grateful and knives, and have the opportunity to experiment and appreciate recipes and ingredients from all over the world.

Description

The In Cucina course is a fun and interactive workshop, in which children explore the world of cooking through sensory games and practical activities. With the help of our instructor, they learn to get to know new flavors and ingredients, developing the bases for healthy nutrition. They also have the opportunity to learn to complete activities in the kitchen by themselves, in full autonomy, but also to collaborate and share the workspace and tools with the parent and other participants. In fact, based on age, this workshop cycle is divided into two classes:

  • 2-4 years, accompanied by a parent,
  • 5-10+ years, who participate alone.

Each lesson focuses on a theme: an ingredient, a dish or the typical cuisine of a country, which still are encouraged to cook and taste. In this way children spontaneously exceed the 'defenses’ towards unknown foods and are open to new ingredients. We start with preparing a recipe all together. The children thus begin to understand the importance of working in a group and preparing something in an environment of trust and total independence. In the second part, a game related to food is played, to increase their knowledge and to develop the use of the 5 senses in the kitchen. And finally we all taste the cooked dish together. Here are some examples of the activities proposed during the In Cucina workshops for 2-10+ years:

  • Discovery of a product: stories and information related to the theme of the meeting, to stimulate interest and involvement.
  • Sensory games: exploration of various ingredients through touch, smell and taste.
  • Mini laboratories: preparation of typical dishes, such as pizza and pasta.
  • Culinary challenges: group activities that encourage cooperation and creativity in the kitchen.

The activity in the kitchen thus becomes a stimulus for the autonomy of the child and a source of self -confidence.
