Pen pals
Age: 7-12 YEARS
Writing is a way to talk about yourself, but also to learn. There is a very particular charm in the silent words read on paper, in waiting for an answer, in the handwriting of a person you have never met…
Pen pals is a Stivaletto project designed to stimulate children's language skills and creativity through new little friendships – via letter – between the Netherlands and Italy.
Participation is open to all.
Find a pen pal too
In collaboration with several Italian primary schools, Lo Stivaletto coordinates the exchange of letters between Italian-speaking children in the Netherlands and other children living in Italy. It's an exchange of letters – precisely handwritten ones! – which is initially coordinated by Pamela and Valeria, the Stivaletto volunteers who take care of the project, and can then continue autonomously among the children themselves.
Each participant has the opportunity to write a message or a drawing – by one's own hand or in collaboration with others – and come into direct contact with many possible new friendships across the border.
If you know a child aged 7-12 who wants to cultivate new friendships in Italian through writing, write to:
- Pamela: pamelaminino81@yahoo.it
- Valeria: valeria.rinaudo@gmail.com
It will be a pleasure to connect you with the teachers of Italian schools and their classes. The exchange can then continue by hand or by e-mail.

A more inclusive boot
What are these symbols: “ǝ” e “ɜ”?
In 2023 we decided to undertake a series of changes in the way we communicate that better reflect our vision of family and the our values.
The first step was therefore choice of an inclusive language and the introduction of schwa – “ǝ” e “ɜ” – in all our content. It is an action, however small, in which we invest daily effort and care.
For the year 2024-25 we are also developing an o – We hope – more meetings dedicated to the theme of inclusiveness and also an entire social column, which will guide you to discover all the colors of an inclusive Italian. Stay tuned!
