There are many ways to learn a language. We at Lo Stivaletto have chosen one of the most fun (and tasty) ones: living the language through experiences.
For this reason, the children of the course Studio-Italiano Pro on Wednesday afternoon, together with the educator Aurora Invernizzi who leads the course, have created a special project dedicated to Italian cuisine: By eating you learn!.
Commitment in the classroom – and not only that – culminated in the creation of a small series of videos that “it is the result of study lessons, hands in the dough and full bellies”.
Three products, a culture to discover
In 2025 Italian cuisine has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
We wanted to celebrate this important recognition by continuing to do what we like most: learning Italian through play and discovery… and of course the food!
The project developed through moments of research and practical lessons dedicated to three great protagonists of the Italian gastronomic tradition:
- 🍦 The ice cream
- 🥖 The focaccia
- 🥔 The gnocchi
Each meeting was an opportunity to expand our vocabulary, use Italian in authentic situations and learn about curiosities about our culture.
For ice cream and focaccia the children went out together with Aurora to visit two reference points of Italian cuisine in Amsterdam: Massimo Gelato e The Focacceria. Here they were able to closely observe the preparation of the products, do research, learn new terms and, of course, taste the specialties.
The last stage of the study path was dedicated to gnocchi: this time the children became the protagonists, preparing the gnocchi with their own hands and eating them together during the lesson.
Learning with all your senses
Experiences like these perfectly represent the educational method Boot: learning the language goes beyond the confines of textbooks and is experienced through concrete activities, emotions, relationships and moments of discussion.
While the children were busy kneading, observing, tasting, asking questions and recording the scenes in the video, Italian was more than ever the natural tool for communicating and learning.
